Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Overview
True-to-life video that makes reaching out easier and more fun than ever before!
What is Snap!VRS?
Snap!VRS is a form of telecommunication relay services regulated by the Federal Communications Commission under Title IV of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). With the Ojo video phone, qualified sign-language video interpreters communicate directly with individuals that are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing through true-to-life audio and video transmission on Ojo, thereby enabling three way communication with standard telephone users in real-time. The Ojo video phone works with cable, DSL, or other high bandwidth broadband connections to provide the highest quality video transmission (1/6 of a second delay), which is essential when sign language is the primary mode of communication. Our qualified interpreters are available 24x7 and ensure that the message is communicated clearly and accurately.
How does it work?
Snap!VRS calls are simple to make. Just dial 711 on the Ojo video phone and you will be connected to a certified sign language interpreter who will facilitate your call. The interpreter will dial your party on a separate voice line. You communicate with the interpreter using sign language and the interpreter simultaneously relays your comments in spoken English to the person you are calling. The responses from your called party are signed back to you by the interpreter. No text or typing is involved – it's that easy.
Who is eligible?
Snap!VRS is available to individuals who are Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, or Speech Impaired and prefer to use sign language to communicate for phone calls.
How much does it cost?
All VRS calls placed within the continental United States are free. In addition, all direct Ojo-to-Ojo and Ojo to other video phone calls to anyone worldwide are free as well.
How else can I use Ojo?
Since Ojo uses your ten digit number so your friends, family and co-workers can call you and leave a video message at anytime. The Ojo holds 20 minutes of video messages so you will never miss another important call. You can also place direct calls to anyone with an Ojo or other video phones with a ten digit number.
